Toy rental for children
The fact that books or DVDs are borrowed does not surprise anyone. But borrowing toys for children, yes. A pity, because such an idea is worth attention for several reasons
The fact that books or DVDs are borrowed does not surprise anyone. But borrowing toys for children, yes. A pity, because such an idea is worth attention for several reasons.
First of all, we are able to afford the toys they dream about. Secondly, the rental is an extremely ecological solution – we do not buy any unnecessary gadgets that our toddler can throw in the corner after a week (do an examination of conscience and judge yourself if I am right :).
Thirdly, it is difficult not to take into account the educational character – after all, the child learns to take care of the borrowed items and share them with others. In addition, such institutions, apart from classic toys, also have quite a lot of educational toys that perfectly stimulate the development of our child.
How do toy rentals work?
It looks different – sometimes you pay a monthly subscription, sometimes a one-time amount is enough. But there are times when local rentals are free. Parents rent toys for a specified period of time and, just like in a library, they can extend their possession. On the American website Babyplays.com, you can even buy a toy of your choice if your child particularly likes it.
In Poland, similar principles operate, inter alia, existing since January this year. Mamoteka in Opole was established on the initiative of the Mamowo parents’ group at the headquarters of the OFF-Women Foundation for Civic Society.
There, in addition to toys, there are also books and publications on parenting, educational, psychological, feminist and gender issues. I do not think I need to convince you that the initiative is worth following. So – who is willing to sign up?
Parents’ dream: Toy rental – can it be successful?
Renting instead of buying toys is a popular trend, incl. in America and Korea. This is a good, ecological solution for undecided parents and those whose children have … too many toys.

The idea for renting toys is simple – the parent pays a subscription (monthly or yearly) and as part of this, he may rent a certain number of toys to the child from time to time. After being returned, the toys are cleaned and repaired if necessary. In addition, some companies give customers the opportunity to buy a toy that the child likes very much, with a very attractive discount. The companies make sure that the toys are safe, attractive and reputable companies.
